Life's short. Train hard. Praise God.
St. Michael’s Academy is a faith-grounded self-defense training organization committed to equipping citizens, congregations, law enforcement, security, military personnel and community leaders with practical skills to preserve life, protect the vulnerable, and deter violence. We teach responsible firearms handling, situational awareness, and defensive tactics rooted in lawful, ethical practice. Our courses are designed to build competence, confidence, and sound judgment so students can safely avoid, de-escalate, or, when necessary, defend themselves and others within the bounds of the law.
Our work grows from a distinctly Christian heritage. We believe our faith calls us to care for the weak, guard the innocent, and steward the safety of our houses of worship and communities. That conviction guides everything we do: from curriculum design and training standards to how we interact with students and partner organizations. We train not for aggression or domination, but for disciplined, moral readiness, preparing people to act responsibly in crisis and to protect life whenever called to do so. We are a veteran owned and operated organization and love nothing more than seeing our veteran community thrive.
What we teach
• Firearms safety & marksmanship fundamentals (for defensive use only)
• Situational awareness and risk recognition (how to see and avoid danger)
• Defensive tactics and non-lethal options (verbal de-escalation and physical control)
• Trauma care and medical response basics (stop the bleed / emergency first aid)
• Church & event security planning (practical guidance for volunteer teams)
Our commitment
We insist on lawful conduct, professional standards, and the highest ethical practice. Instructors are certified, courses emphasize de-escalation and risk reduction, and every program includes legal and moral context so graduates understand when—and under what authority—they may act. We work with pastors, community leaders, and local ranges to deliver training that is respectful, accountable, and aligned with local regulations.
A word of conviction
We believe there is a responsibility to confront evil with courage and wisdom. As Scripture reminds us, we are to be both prayerful and prepared.
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. in addition to all this, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. ” — Ephesians 6:11-17 (ESV)
