Owning and carrying a firearm comes with serious responsibility. This course is designed to give you the knowledge, mindset, and skills you need to safely and legally carry and operate your firearm with confidence. Whether you’re new to firearms or looking to strengthen your foundation, this training prepares you for both the classroom and the range.
What You’ll Learn
Understand the mindset and responsibilities of firearm ownership and carrying.
Know the legal uses of a firearm for self-defense under Pennsylvania law.
Understand the functions of single- and double-action revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.
Be familiar with different types of firearms and equipment (holsters, magazines, optics, and more).
Safely and confidently operate your personal firearm in live-fire drills.
Leave with the confidence of being a responsibly armed American.
Course Requirements
A License to Carry a Firearm is required prior to attending class. Proof of the license must be emailed prior to or presented on the day of the course. This provides St. Michaels Academy with the peace of mind that you have already been a responsible individual up to this point as you wouldn’t have your license to carry if you didn’t already pass a background check.
Students are required to bring:
Personal firearm (clean and in working order)
Holster or case for secure transport. Holster will be used during class. This holster is REQUIRED to be an OWB, on-the-waistband, meaning attached to the belt.
At least 3 magazines
Ammunition - 200-250 rounds
Ear and eye protection (electronic muffs recommended)
Closed-toe shoes (boots or sturdy sneakers)
Sturdy belt capable of supporting a holster
Range-appropriate attire (long pants, no low-cut shirts; brimmed hat recommended)
Notebook, pen, water bottle, snack/packed lunch and gloves for range work.

What You’ll Learn
Pistol II builds upon the foundational skills taught in Pistol I, advancing participants' knowledge, confidence, and practical application of firearms for self-defense. This course focuses on improving marksmanship, incorporating movement, and managing real-world scenarios. Legal considerations are expanded to include dynamic encounters and post-incident responsibilities with the overall course having a higher focus on concealed carry fundamentals.

Prerequisites – Pistol I
A License to Carry a Firearm is required prior to attending class. Proof of the license must be emailed prior to or presented on the day of the course. Students are required to bring
Personal firearm (clean and in working order). it is recommended you use the firearm you carry for self defense.
Holster. IWB/OWB/Battle Belt are all acceptable. No Belly bands are allowed.
At least 3 magazines and at least 1 magazine holster.
Ammunition 250-400 rounds
Ear and eye protection (electronic muffs recommended)
Closed-toe shoes (boots or sturdy sneakers)
Sturdy belt capable of supporting a holster
Range-appropriate attire (long pants, no low-cut shirts; brimmed hat recommended)
Notebook, pen, water bottle, snack/packed lunch and gloves for range work.

What You’ll Learn
Pistol 3 builds on the lessons from Pistol 1 and 2 and incorporates advanced shooting skills when moving and shooting and multiple threat identification and response. This course refines your decision-making under stress, sharpening target discrimination, throttle control, and use of cover while maintaining strict safety and accountability.
Shoot while moving (forward, rearward, lateral, oblique) and manage recoil, cadence, and accuracy on the move.
Identify and prioritize multiple threats, execute rapid target transitions, and apply threat-discrimination standards.
Use cover and concealment effectively; slice angles, manage exposure, and move between positions.
Perform reloads and malfunction clearances on the move and under time pressure.
Apply throttle control (speed vs. precision) and manage accountability for every round.
Communicate, reposition, and safely break contact when appropriate.
Prerequisites:
Successful completion of Pistol 1 & Pistol 2
